Urban Holm
Urban Holm, Sales Manager at T-Kartor since August 2022, supports customers in Sweden and Denmark, particularly in the defense and public safety sector, helping them understand how geospatial technology can make urgent, complex tasks easier and safer.
Urban's path into the geospatial industry is not a traditional one: he comes from the user side of business development, rescue and crisis management, with many years of practical experience as a paramedic, alongside training in electrical work and nursing. He later studied leadership, project management, and sales management, developing the communication skills he now uses every day in his contact with customers.
Ultimately, Urban’s background in the practical use of software systems to support rescue and crisis response, coupled with clear, practical communication, now shapes how he presents T‑Kartor's technology to the teams that need it most.
"I don't have a technical engineering background," says Urban. "If I can use it, they can use it. My job is to meet customers, understand their needs, and make the products more user-friendly."
Much of Urban's work centers on IRIS, T-Kartor's core platform, and the web clients built on top of it: COP (used by the Swedish rescue services) and OLS (used by the Swedish Transport Administration).
These tools become particularly vital during crises. In crisis management, the amount of information can be overwhelming. IRIS helps by connecting multiple data sources and placing them in context (on a map, with position and time) so that decision-makers get the situational awareness they need.
"Geodata and geoinformation are much more than map products and GIS. They also include data from various systems, sensors on satellites, aircraft, ships, drones, vehicles, and mobile phones—data that needs to be structured, protected, analyzed, and distributed to create impact and a common operational picture."
Urban works remotely from Varberg on Sweden's west coast and regularly visits the head office in Kristianstad. He appreciates the flexibility and close-knit culture that extends across offices and borders.
"Every time I meet my colleagues, it’s nice. T‑Kartor is a good company to work in, with good leadership and transparency."
Urban’s favorite part of his job is the conversations with customers: listening, explaining, and finding the fit between real‑world operations and intuitive tools. His crisis‑response experience gives him a practical lens: tools need to help quickly, clearly, and under pressure. He aims to make IRIS approachable for non‑technical users, because simplicity wins in the field.
Looking ahead, Urban sees T-Kartor as a company that builds long-term relationships with its customers, and the IRIS product as a Swedish-developed, NATO-compliant, and operationally proven solution for managing and sharing sensitive information in a geospatial context and supporting collaboration between organizations in a secure, scalable, and fast way.
Urban's advice for anyone interested in joining the T-Kartor team is simple: "Listen to your colleagues. And enjoy."
It's the kind of advice that reflects T‑Kartor’s culture: collaborative, supportive, and focused on learning.
Beyond his professional life, Urban enjoys music, theatre, and time with family. He loves dogs and is considering getting another medium-sized dog in the future.
In 2026, there’s a special celebration on the calendar: his daughter’s wedding in Falköping, north of Gothenburg (the whole family is excited)!
