Mila Wieczorek-Pemberton
June 2025

A lifelong lover of maps, Mila Wieczorek-Pemberton has found her place at T-Kartor and has been a cherished part of our team since 2022.
Mila's early memories include sitting in the car with her mom while using an atlas to navigate. Reading, understanding, and creating maps came naturally to her, and she carried this interest with her to college, earning a degree in geography with an emphasis on GIS.
One of the most unique parts of Geospatial work is seeing how science and art interact. That's one of Mila's favorite parts of her job – how visually appealing the work can be. She recently switched to the Wayfinding team at T-Kartor and has enjoyed working with artistically inclined maps.
In addition to geospatial, one of Mila's other loves is skating, and she integrates the two passions when she can! While skating in smaller towns in South Korea, she would use open-source street data to map out skating routes, noting well-paved routes safer for skaters; this represents how Mila has used her geospatial skills in conjunction with her hobbies to better the community.
An essential part of a company's culture is how the team sets up opportunities for learning and growth. Mila has seen this firsthand with T-Kartor and appreciates how management communicates and offers opportunities to take on new projects. She thoroughly enjoys the collaborative atmosphere.
Mila's advice to geospatial newcomers is to be flexible. The learning never stops, but it doesn't have to be daunting (in fact, it's rather exciting).
Mila also recommends that those new to the industry find ways that their hobbies and interests can intersect with geospatial tools, like how she maps skating routes in places she visits.
Few people can say they have skated worldwide: Mila has skated on three continents and nine countries! In-line skating has been her longtime love and hobby, and she has recently been trying out quad skating through Roller Derby.
In addition to skating, Mila also enjoys skiing, hiking, and the outdoors in general. She has a unique interest in fungi and flora and has mapped her findings when identifying mushrooms, moss, lichen, and more. This interest has led her to teach local classes on identification and cultivation.
Mila is eager for her upcoming visit to the T-Kartor office in Kristianstad, Sweden, and looks forward to collaborating with the team and experiencing the country at large.
