Ingrid Mårtensson
March 2025

Ingrid Mårtensson has had an illustrious career with T-Kartor. She started with the company in 1995, and this year marks her 30th year with us!
Her contributions to T-Kartor have been innumerable, especially in our city wayfinding projects, and we are incredibly thankful for all her hard work and dedication each day.
Growing up in the countryside, Ingrid became interested in the world around her at a young age. She was fascinated by fossils and Earth's history. When she began her studies at Lund University, naturally, she was drawn to paleontology, geoscience, and geography.
Ingrid graduated with a Master's Degree in Physical Geography and was quickly recruited to join the T-Kartor team in Kristianstad. She became an operator before becoming a trainer and support person for T-Kartor's cartographic production system. Over the years, she has learned many iterations of GIS programs, new techniques, logistics, and planning.
Ingrid has collaborated on many projects during her career, but her city wayfinding work is perhaps her most notable contribution. She has worked on projects for cities worldwide, including Paris, London, New York, Cleveland, and Toronto (to name a few).
When she first began city wayfinding projects, building cities from scratch was incredibly time-consuming. The recent integration of open-source data makes this process more efficient.
The culture at T-Kartor has made Ingrid's 30 years enjoyable. She appreciates the collaborative atmosphere and has been a significant part of fostering that attitude.
Ingrid has loved the outdoor activities and other events the company hosts, and over the years, she has met some of her best friends at T-Kartor, including her partner!
Change is a constant in the geospatial field. That said, when we look at the industry's future, we can dare to make predictions. Ingrid predicts that we will see an open-source takeover and high-profile cartography projects for more and more cities that understand the need for a good city wayfinding system to encourage people to use public transport, bike, and walk to save our environment.
With her impressive tenure, Ingrid has ample advice for industry newcomers. She recommends that those new to city wayfinding projects remember cartographic principles, consider aesthetics, and develop a technical process while keeping an artistic eye. Ingrid also encourages new hires to ask as many questions as possible and advises them not to rush their work.
Ingrid enjoys living in the countryside with her family when she's not at work. She is an avid gardener and tends to vegetables in her greenhouse. She also enjoys sports like running, ice skating, and skiing (once she completed the Vasaloppet 90k ski race in Sweden!).
This year, Ingrid is looking forward to a family trip to Italy, mainly to show her 15-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter the country. She also hopes to spend time biking with her partner.
