Cycling portal of Ustecky region
Ustecky region is one of 15 regions in the Czech Republic. Mostsignificantly, it shares a long border with Germany (Saxony).
In 2006, T-Kartor Group was asked to create a detailed mapping system as
part of a theme of cross-border cooperation between Ustecky region and
Saxony, Germany. The main objective of this project was to popularize the
region as an area suitable for bicycle tourism.
T-Kartor Group created a mapping application offering rich maps at different
scales, including a number of special map functions. One example of the
special functions is routing. This allows the user to search for optimal
bicycle routes with free definition of route points. There are also several
layers of points of interest (POIs) in the supporting map data. POIs can be
also be included in a route. Parallel routes are automatically
differentiated graphically by different line thickness according to route
numbers. Text and map itineraries are created for each selected route
including an elevation profile. The resulting map and all ancillary
information can be printed. Regarding the data, the road network, POIs and
some additional information can be edited on-line by authorized users (e.g.
POI restaurants can be edited - added, deleted, updated - directly by
registered owners of restaurants). The system uses TKG's map data products -
SHOCart maps.
The system implements TKG's web technologies (including T-MapServer, T-WIST
web applications) as well as the open source RDBMS PostgreSQL with its
spatial extension PostGIS. Special third party technologies include RW Net
(RouteWare, Denmark).
This project was financed from EU structural funds.
