Svenska Kraftnät
Thousands of files and documents in diverse formats made easily available to hundreds of stakeholders through a secure portal. The main factor that this information has in common is the ability to link it to a geographical point on the national grid.
When Svenska Kraftnät planned the South West Link, an extension of the national grid in Skåne, Southern Sweden, it was seen as the ’..largest and single most important net investment..’ at the time. T-Kartor was chosen to build up the GIS-based project database.
The South West Link is an extension to the high voltage network between Southern Sweden and the rest of Sweden, plus Norway. The Southern section of this link, 190km long, is to be dug underground.
The enormous investment takes years of research and planning to arrive at the best position for the underground cable. Hundreds of consultants and engineers contribute data on natural and cultural aspects, security and economical considerations and phisical barriers. Data collected ranges from technical land relief and geological studies to text documents concerning permission from land owners.
The complete set of data is collected and imported to a GIS-based system and each detail is registered with a coordinate. Access to the geographically presented data is via a web based geoportal in a standard web browser.
The ERDAS Apollo server solution offers a very powerful mapping tool for quickly cataloging and visualising large amounts of data in many formats, offering many server-side mapping services via a web browser without plugins or downloads. The server is compatible with other GIS and CAD systems displays using the latest OGC and ISO standards.
The geoportal givess a comprehensive, clear visualisation of complicated masses of information, easy access by a large number of stakeholders and exact positioning on a map. The project saves a lot of time by organising its data in a central place.
